Hans Zimmer, né le 12 septembre 1957 à Francfort-sur-le-Main (RFA), est un compositeur de musique de film et producteur de trames sonores allemand naturalisé américain.

Actif depuis les années 1980 et spécialisé peu à peu dans la composition de partitions orchestrales, Hans Zimmer est connu pour avoir composé les bandes originales de nombreux films à succès dans des genres très variés. Il a composé également la musique de plusieurs films d'animation, séries télévisées ou encore de jeux vidéo.

Par le biais de son studio Remote Control Productions, il est aussi la figure d'un système de création musicale prévalent à Hollywood dans les années 2010 et 2020 : plusieurs dizaines d'artistes musicaux travaillent sur un même film et fournissent des mélodies au compositeur principal, tandis que seul celui-ci est crédité en tant que compositeur. Parmi ces anciens assistants ont émergé des personnalités comme Harry Gregson-Williams, John Powell et Lorne Balfe.

En 2022, Hans Zimmer cumule notamment deux Oscars de la meilleure musique de film (sur 12 nominations), pour Le Roi lion (1994) et Dune (2021).

Hans Florian Zimmer (born 12 September 1957) is a German film composer and music producer. He has received numerous accolades including two Academy Awards, a BAFTA Award, three Golden Globe Awards, and five Grammy Awards, as well as nominations for seven Primetime Emmy Awards. Zimmer was also named one of the Top 100 Living Geniuses by The Daily Telegraph in 2007.

His works integrate electronic music sounds with traditional orchestral arrangements. Since the 1980s, Zimmer has composed music for over 150 films. He has won the Academy Award for Best Original Score twice, for The Lion King (1994) and for Dune (2021). His works include Rain Man (1988), Gladiator (2000), Black Hawk Down (2001), The Last Samurai (2003), The Dark Knight trilogy (2005–2012), the Pirates of the Caribbean series (2006–2011), Inception (2010), Man of Steel (2013), Interstellar (2014), Dunkirk (2017), No Time to Die (2021), the Dune series (2021–), and F1 (2025).

Zimmer spent the early part of his career in the United Kingdom before moving to the United States. He is the head of the film music division at DreamWorks Pictures and DreamWorks Animation studios and works with other composers through the company he co-founded, Remote Control Productions, formerly known as Media Ventures. His studio in Santa Monica, California, has an extensive range of computer equipment and keyboards, allowing demo versions of film scores to be created quickly.

Zimmer has collaborated with Christopher Nolan on six films, from Batman Begins (2005) to Dunkirk. He has also worked on multiple projects with directors such as Ridley and Tony Scott, Ron Howard, Guy Ritchie, and Denis Villeneuve.
