About
David Knopfler (born 27 December 1952) is a British musician. Together with his older brother Mark Knopfler, John Illsley, and Pick Withers, he founded the rock band Dire Straits in 1977, serving as rhythm guitarist on their first two albums. After quitting the band in 1980 during the recording of their third album, Knopfler embarked upon a solo career as a recording artist.

David Knopfler, né le 27 décembre 1952 à Glasgow, est un musicien britannique, l'un des membres fondateurs du groupe de rock Dire Straits avec son frère Mark Knopfler.
Il a contribué aux deux premiers albums du groupe (Dire Straits et Communiqué) en tant que guitariste rythmique. Écrasé par la popularité de son frère Mark, leader incontesté de Dire Straits, il décide de quitter le groupe pendant la réalisation du troisième album, Making Movies, en 1980. Il se lance alors dans une carrière en solo.
